The Eastsider LA - March 2019
Eastside’s top female mixologists; James Beard finalists; Vista’s Supercool neighbor in Los Feliz
Here’s your weekly rundown of Eastside dining and shopping news.
In honor of Women’s History Month, LAist compiled a rundown of “
Women Who Are Changing the Way LA Drinks.” Turns out quite a few ladies from the Eastside made the mark. Patricia Perez, Roselma Samala and Christine Sumiller of Historic Fillipinotown’s Genever bar all received nods for their philanthropic efforts and for crafting killer cocktails. Ting Su of Eagle Rock Brewery, Eagle Rock Public House and founder of Women’s Beer Forum was named “as one of LA’s modern beer pioneers.” Roni Ginach of Kismet in Los Feliz and Cliff’s Edge in Silver Lake made her mark for her natural wine selections. Rounding up the list is Coly Den Haan, who has curated a female driven wine selection at her wine store Vinovore in Silver Lake.
Supercool Creamery has found a permanent home adjacent to the Vista Movie Theatre, the company announced. The nitro-artisan ice cream show founded by Ben Fernebok has been a company and celebrity favorite for the past seven years. With the arrival of Supercool Creamery’s brick and mortar, fans and newbies get a first-hand show behind the fast freezing process of flavors such as cookies and cream, mint chip, green tea, mango sorbet and peanut butter pretzel. Supercool Creamery is at 4469 Sunset Dr. in Los Feliz.
Two chefs with ties to the Eastside were named 2019 James Beard Foundation finalists,
Eater LA reports. Jessica Koslow of Sqirl is in the pool for Best Chef: West. Night + Market was named as a finalist for its Outstanding Wine Program. Let’s see who takes homes the coveted award on May 6 in Chicago, Ill. Squirl is at 720 N. Virgil Ave. in Silver Lake. Night + Market Song is at 3322 W. Sunset Blvd. in Silver Lake.
